Light At The End Of The Tunnel

With the onset of the “lockdown” in April, the world for many of us simply closed down and we saw our turnover plummet. Then to make matters worse, as some galleries prepared to close their doors long term, we began to get so many framed pictures back, we were wondering how we were going to store them all!

With all the art fairs and workshops being cancelled as well, it really was beginning to look like retirement had come early, but we decided to stay positive about it and try and figure out ways in which we could carry on. We concluded that our best course of action in the short term, was to increase our on-line presence, so we worked hard to improve our website and make it as user friendly as possible. Our next move was to open an Etsy shop and also to increase our presence on “print on demand” sites.

Then after four dark months, there finally was some light at the end of the tunnel. The Art Café in Whitby had re-opened and they wanted some replacement stock.

That was followed by some more good news when we were invited to display mounted and framed prints as well as cards in the Chapel Gallery in Hawes. Please call in a have a look at this gallery when you are passing and we can recommend sampling the coffee and cake.

Soon after that, we received even more good news, when we were invited to exhibit some prints and cards in the newly opening Holgate Gallery in York. The Holgate Gallery is the latest addition to the York art scene and we wish Duncan every success in this new venture.

But we really couldn’t believe our luck when got an un-expected call from Domenic, our framer in Helmsley. He’d decided to take the plunge and start his own framing business and wanted us to join a number of other local artists to exhibit some of our mounted and framed images in his gallery. Needless to say, we jumped at the chance and we were over there in a flash. So if you are looking for quality framing, then Domenic is the man to talk to.

In the mean-time, we had an exhibition in “The Gallery Malton” which ran until 15th October, so we’d like to thank Christine for inviting us once again.

Both Duncan at the Holgate Gallery and Domenic at Court House Framers have found setting up a new business difficult and time consuming, particularly in these strange times, but they are now both open for business, so please call in if you are passing.

All of this is certainly keeping us busy with mounting and framing, so suddenly it feels like old times once again. Let’s just hope we can all keep going until this passes over and we can all get back to some semblance of normality.
